ORC Week 5: Scrap Wood Storage Solutions & Organization
CHECK OUT THE EASIEST WAY TO STORE ALL YOUR SCRAP WOOD, PLUS SOME OTHER GARAGE STORAGE MUST HAVES TO KEEP YOUR SPACE CLEAN & CLUTTER FREE
Oh good grief yall its already week 5 of the One Room Challenge & I may or may not have a good come apart by the end! With only one week left & still lots left on our to do list, I am not keeping calm.
For those of you who don’t know, the One Room Challenge is a 6 week room renovation challenge hosted by Better Homes & Gardens. Twice a year, some extremely talented bloggers get together to tackle one room & complete an entire renovation in 6 weeks. Its stressful but also a whole lotta fun!
Our goals this week were to find a good solution for the scrap wood storage & manage some of the other small storage issues, also build our storage shelves. We are saving the Quikrete counter top for the end right after our procrastinators anonymous meeting.
There are a ton of awesome scrap storage solutions that you can build or buy depending on your space. We opted to go with a rack system from Home Depot because it was easy to put together & fit in the budget. We spaced the racks about 5 feet apart, but I recommend moving them closer together or getting a longer piece of plywood for all your smaller scrap wood pieces.

Next, I added these hooks to the wall to organize some of the larger tools that needed to be stored. There is no clever trick to this, I simply found a stud & hung the hook the appropriate height & moved on. Its crunch time so I cant get too fancy with how the weed whipper gets hung up.

Thanks to my amazing husband & father-in-law, the storage shelves were hung this week too! Having these shelves up is such a relief because for some reason this portion of the project seemed to hang over me. It took them about 4 hours & I will post a full tutorial on how they did it soon. Now I just need to get my cute matching storage bins labeled & put up!

The last big project will be to add a 2ft by 4ft concrete tabletop to the middle portion of the shelves. My dad will be coming over this weekend to help me knock that out. I plan on adding a metal ruler into the inlay of the concrete for quick measurements so wish us luck!
Here’s what we have to complete during the final week:
Clean out garagePaint walls & ceilingBuild storage shelves- Quikrete workbench
Scrap wood storageCleaning supplies organizer- Tool pegboard
- Label storage bins
Add pegboard/shelves above wooden workbench- Change out pendant lighting
Still a quite a bit to do so hopefully our 5 month old is feeling cooperative this weekend & lets us knock it all out before reveal week!
Don’t forget to check out all the other amazing bloggers participating in this season’s ORC.
I still just love that you are taking on your garage, and I can’t wait to see the end result. Such a practical transformation!
Thanks Angela! I am super excited about it, I hope getting this space organized will make other projects easier!
