Catch Up Here: Week 1 (design/budget/inspo) / Week 2 (popcorn ceiling removal)
We have been working hard to transform our shockingly lime green half bathroom into a space with vintage character vibes and that’s just a bit easier on the eyes.
This week we tackled painting the walls and floors, bye bye lime green!
Painting floors is a really budget savvy way to transform outdated flooring and add character to your space.
Today I wanted to share this super simple method for painting your tiled flooring so that it will last!
Painting Tile the Easy Way: Bathroom Makeover
Supplies:
-Beyond Paint (Licorice & Bright White)
-3/8 Nap Roller
-Small Brush
-Stencil
Let me show you what we are working with:

Prepping The Floor

I used Krud Kutter to degrease the floor & remove any residue.

Prepping the floor correctly is a main factor in getting the paint to bond correctly so that it won’t chip.
Base Paint Layer
After it was oh so sparkly clean & dry I rolled on the first layer of Licorice paint.

Make sure you are really pushing the paint into the grout lines, even using a brush to dap it in if necessary.
Here is how it looked after just one coat:

I let this layer dry overnight before doing one more coat of the black Licorice.

Once that layer was dry it was time to add the design to the tiles.
Adding The Tile Design

You can purchase a stencil or use tape to create a pattern you like.
I used a Cricut machine & stencil vinyl to create my own diamond shaped stencil.

Next, I stuck my stencils onto the dry tiles & used a sponge brush to dab the Bright White over them.

My best advice for stenciling is to make sure there is not too much paint on your brush & use a dabbing motion for applying the paint.
The Bright White is the perfect contrast to the Licorice paint!
Sealing The Tile

After 24 hours I rolled on a light layer of the Beyond Paint Sealer.
This sealer self levels & provides heat/water resistance!
The key is to make sure you are not applying too thick of a sealer layer, it’s better to do two thin coats than one heavy coat of sealer.

The satin sheen of the sealer gave the tiles exactly the finish I was hoping for.
Painted Tile Flooring Reveal

I am loving the newly painted tile y’all!
It adds so much character to the space and only cost 1 quart of paint to complete.
This room still has a long way to go but I am super happy with the progress we have made!
Also not being blinded by the lime green is a nice bonus 😉

Great article! Transforming your bathroom with a fresh coat of paint on the tiles is an easy way to achieve a stunning makeover. Start by cleaning and preparing the tiles to ensure proper adhesion. Use a high-quality tile paint specifically designed for the job. Apply multiple thin coats, allowing sufficient drying time between each layer. With a little patience and attention to detail, you can give your bathroom a cost-effective and impressive facelift through the power of paint.
