How To Add Sconce Lighting Without Hardwiring
Add sconce lighting to any area without having to hardwire it or pay an electrician
Anyone else a huge fan of accent lighting?
Adding extra lighting to any space can make the room feel larger and also add extra character.
When I first started designing our breakfast nook, I knew I wanted to add some sconce lighting in between the bay windows.
Adam was not as on board because he knew that would mean opening up walls and honestly neither one of us wanted to mess with that.

While we were building the built-in storage bench I noticed an outlet that would be hidden inside the bench and my wheels started turning…
I saved some of my favorite sconce lighting options at the bottom of the post in case you want to add some of your own!

–Plug In Sconces (if yours are not plug-in find a different no wire hack here)
If you aren’t trying to hide your cords inside a built-in bench than this process will be even easier for you, but here is what we did.

First, we used a hole saw to cut small holes into the bench for the cords to go through.

Next I attached my new vintage sconces to both sides of the large bay window.
This is your reminder to check for a stud & if there isn’t one you will definitely need drywall anchors like we did.

Once the sconces were attached I cut down our cord covers to size, leveled & attached them with the sticky back to the wall.
These ones are paintable so they will blend in with the wall better.

Once the cord covers were attached I also added back trim we removed.
We did have to cut out a little slot in the back of the trim for the cord cover to fit in.

I really wanted these sconces to be controlled by a regular switch so I used this switch and outlet set.
It’s wireless and was super simple to setup, I just paired the switch and outlets, then plugged in my lights.
If you are working with sconces that are not plug in you can find exactly what you need to make them operate without hardwiring them here!

The switch has two super sticky pads so I didn’t have to use screws to attach it to the wall.
