How To Make Garland For Christmas: That’s Free!
Save money by making your own real Christmas garland for free
Anyone else feel like they need to start working second and third jobs just to make it through the holidays…
Between the presents, food, and decorations it can get expensive real quick!
I have made it my mission this year to not stress about having all the things and being happy with the things we can comfortably afford.
That’s why I like to take advantage of “free” decor whenever I can.
I am guilty of wanting Christmas garland on every inch of the house (not really doable but a girl can dream).

The only problem is Christmas garland real and fake can be expensive.
So I try to invest in only one or two pieces of quality faux garland a year and then winging it from there.
This year I decided to try and make my own real Christmas garland and y’all this will definitely be something I do ever year!
It was so simple and cost me absolutely nothing to make, I know you will love this DIY Christmas garland too.

Supplies:
- 16 Gauge Wire
- Floral Tape
- Floral Wire
- Real or Faux Stems
Types of Garland

For this years garland I used the extra stems that came off our real Douglas Christmas tree.
We purchased it from Home Depot and when they were netting it up they offered me the pieces that came off (well heck yes).

You could also go outside and forage your own stems from trees or bushes like I did for our Christmas Centerpiece.
If you are using real stems and branches be sure to soak them in a water bath to help them last longer.
How to Make Your Own Garland

Start by measuring the length you need for your garland, I went with 9ft.
Cut the thick 16 gauge wire to this length and wrap it with floral tape.
Now you can start attaching the branches along the length of the wire.

I simply attached the stems around the wire using floral wire.
Depending on how heavy they are you may need to wrap them in a couple places to keep them from hanging too low.
After the garland was put together, I cut and wrapped two more pieces of 16 garage wire.

These will be placed on the garland where I want to hang it from, I also used Command Hooks to attach the entire thing to the wall.
DIY Christmas Garland

It’s amazing how cozy adding garland makes a space feel!
I really love how this free little DIY turned out, it really adds those extra Christmas feel goods to the kitchen.

To really make it pop I also made some easy dried orange slice garland to hang with it!
Nothing smells better than dried oranges and fresh garland.

This real Christmas garland is definitely something I will make every year.
I think it would be super cute to also hang the Christmas cards we receive on it too, what do you think?
