DIY Bathroom Mirror Frame & Budget Savvy Options

A Budget Savvy Solution To Updating Your Boring Builder Grade Mirror With A DIY Mirror Frame, Plus My Favorite Mirror Finds For Any Budget

Welcome back to week 2 of the $100 room challenge!

This is always the first week of real progress for me because during week 1 I am still wrapping my head around all the design details & by week 2 I am ready to take the plunge & get to work!

This week I got busy framing in the bathroom mirrors.

This is one of my go-to projects for when I am trying to save a bit of money because its super cheap to do & also you don’t have to deal with any drywall repair!

Eventually I will probably replace these mirrors with something like this, but for now this is a huge improvement!

The best part is I was able to add this bathroom mirror trim with all scrap wood!

That means this portion of the project cost me nothing (victory dance).

I can’t wait to show you how they turned out & also some of my favorite budget savvy mirrors if you are ready to replace your builder grade mirror.

Erin from Lemons, Lavender, & Laundry started this challenge a couple of years ago (you can read more about that here). Basically, a bunch of very talented bloggers get together to take on renovating a space for $100 or less! We have 1 month to complete the challenge & the hope is to have a swoon-worthy room at the end, all while staying in budget.

Before: Unframed Bathroom Mirrors

This is what we started with. Very boring bathroom with absolutely no personality.

For these bathroom mirror frames, I wanted a thinner look than what I built in the half bathroom downstairs.

So 1X2 scrap wood pieces were perfect!

I spray painted them black to save time & also spray paint is just so much quicker.

Next, I attached them using 1 3/4″ nails.

No fancy cuts, I just overlapped the bottom pieces with the top.

You can also use wood glue to secure the frame to the mirror or the wall itself but I always try to avoid more damage later when I am ready for a change.

That’s it, simplest method to framing in a bathroom mirror ever! Plus you get a little sneak peek of what we are working on for week 3, the tall board & batten.

Here are some of my favorite budget mirror frames

This round mirror is from Target & I still cant get over that it’s only $60!

They also have a rectangular mirror for the same price!

This mirror would be perfect for over a mantel!

These mirrors with the built-in shelf are great for extra storage in the bathroom & also a perfect spot for showcasing your pretty perfume bottles or a little plant.

I love the look of this pivot mirror from West Elm, this is totally my style.

Or maybe a bathroom mirror like this!

The beads all around it make it extra special!

I am not opposed to a frameless mirror as long as it has a cool shape like this one!

Just a few of my favorite bathroom mirror options in case you are ready for a replacement!

Eventually, when I replace these mirrors it will be with something like this.

The arched bathroom mirrors are so classic & pretty.

This next week we will be going to town on the board & batten for this bathroom so don’t forget to come back to see the finished result of that project!

We are going to be attempting to board & batten the entire bathroom using 1 piece of MDF, wish us luck!

  1. I love the simple frames you put together- nice job. And your affordable choices are all too good- too bad I don’t need any. Or do I?
