Peel & stick wallpaper is a great way to also personalize a rental space or apartment to fit your style.
If you were following along on Instagram with us recently you know I was struggling to put in some absolutely gorgeous floral wallpaper in our new built-in IKEA cabinet.
I have installed pasted wallpaper on my mom’s office ceiling & that was a breeze!

Another one of my favorite ways to use peel & stick wallpaper is to add it to furniture to give it a pop of color or texture.
During the guest bedroom makeover at our old house I added it the drawer fronts on some thrifted furniture.

I also added it to the bathroom cabinet fronts & made faux marble shelves during the $100 bathroom makeover challenge!

The wallpaper I used to update a thrifted china cabinet was also peel & stick but it had a lot of texture to it, which made it a bit easier to work with.

My newest peel & stick project was a bit more challenging but absolutely worth it!
I have had my heart set on this IKEA Havsta cabinet for our kitchen renovation since we started.
We are making it look & feel completely custom by “building it in” with high crown molding & trim.

Plus I swapped out the silver hardware for these brass knobs I found on Amazon!
They are very Restoration Hardware esque for a quarter of the price 😉
The last phase of making this IKEA cabinet feel custom is adding this gorgeous vintage wallpaper!

This little wallpaper makeover gave me a bit of trouble but I learned a lot of really good tips & tricks to make your install go much smoother.
Peel & Stick Wallpaper Install Tips & Tricks:
1. Find the Center

Use a laser lever or a measuring tape & ruler to mark the center of the space you will be wallpapering.
It was very helpful to set up our new laser level to line up with where the edge of the wallpaper was going to be.
This made it much simpler to keep my first piece straight as I smoothed it out.
2. Smooth Downward

I will be honest I did not think the direction of the smoothing matter, but it does.
Use an old gift card or another tool to smooth the wallpaper downward as you lay it on the wall or surface.
If you do have bubbles that just won’t budge, you can take a tack or pin to poke a small hole for the air to escape from.
3. Overlap Then Cut

This little tip is hard for me because I hate wasting supplies, but it is absolutely necessary!
When measuring out your wallpaper section add an extra 1-2″ & push the excess firmly into the corner with your smoothing tool.
After it is tightly in the corner, use a very sharp box cutter to cut the excess.
This will guarantee that you have enough to cover your space & make the edges seamless!

Those three tips will make your next peel & stick wallpaper project a breeze!
I cannot wait to reveal the complete IKEA built-in reveal with y’all but until then take a peek at some of my favorite vintage peel & stick wallpaper finds.
