Patio Design Ideas: Budget-Friendly Outdoor Rugs
Update your outdoor space with these budget design ideas & fun outdoor rug options
Do y’all feel that?
It’s warmer weather heading our way, which means outdoor project time!
As soon as it starts to even look nice outside it’s hard to keep us indoors.
We are a family that likes front porch sitting, playing under the sun, & eating on the deck.
When we moved in last May, the only outdoor projects we really accomplished were at the chicken coop.
So this year we decided to start by getting our front porch ready for all our upcoming outdoor living.
The long term plans are to completely replace the wooden porch boards with composite decking & replacing the vinyl siding with board & batten…
But those improvements are pricey so they will be pushed back a couple of years.
For now we are going to do a budget update that will hold us over until then!

Let’s take a look at what we are starting with:

We have done nothing to this front porch since we bought this house last may.
It has become a catch all for random leftover project supplies & desperately needs to be revived!
Patio Design Ideas

After a good pressure washing, the deck needs to be completely re-stained.
The plan will be to go with something a bit lighter this time.
Stain or paint is a great way to revive dreary flooring for relatively cheap.
Front Door Makeover

Also on the list is giving our front door a makeover.
It is a beautiful wooden door but has some wear & tear.
The plan will be to paint it New Black, along with the window panes!
We will also be replacing the outdoor sconces around the door with these.
And these flame light bulbs will create a romantic ambiance once the sun goes down.
Budget Outdoor Rug Options
Next on the list is finding an outdoor rug to put under our wooden table.
This one is both mine & Adam’s favorite.
It will contrast the newly stained deck & I love the modern pattern.

Refinishing The Outdoor Table

The table we built for the patio at the old house has definitely weathered quite a bit over the years.
Truthfully I don’t think I sealed it well enough the first time…
I won’t make that mistake again ๐
After we pressure wash & sand it back down, I will re-stain it with Varathane Black stain.
This time I will make sure to seal it really well!
Bed Swing Makeover

I have been waiting patiently to tackle this bed swing ever since we moved in!
I really considered just refinishing this one, but my heart isn’t for that & I just wanna make a new one!
Can that be okay ๐
The plan will be to either stain it the same color as the shutters or stain it black to match the table…
What do y’all think?!
It will also hang down from rope, not chains, & I am hoping to find a reasonably priced twin mattress for it.
Obviously I will also need some fun outdoor throw pillows too ๐

Remove Banisters

I know this probably won’t be a popular decision but…
How amazing would it be to knock down all the railings & banisters!
The porch really isn’t that high off the ground & it will really open up the space!
To Do List:
- Stain Deck
- Remove Railing
- Paint Front Door
- Pressure Wash
- Refinish Table/Bench
- Build Swing Bed
- Lighting Swap
- Add Fans
It’s not the smallest to do list I have ever seen but we will just take it one project at a time!
Let me know what y’all think of our plans!
