DIY Faux Concrete Planter: Concrete Decor Ideas
How to create a faux concrete texture look for any piece of decor & planter
Some decor is simply timeless.
It lasts through fads & trends because it can be used in multiple home styles.
One that I love specifically is concrete textured decor!
Concrete decor is perfect for adding character inside & outside, during any season.
The only problem is that it can be slightly expensive…
That’s why for this weeks Thrifty Style Team Challenge I am making my own concrete textured paint on the cheap ๐ (check out the other 13 thrifty projects at the end of this post)!
DIY Faux Concrete Planter
Supplies:
- Plaster of Paris
- White Paint
- Gray or Black Paint

While I was shopping my moms storage closet (all the good stuff hides in there ๐) I found this super cute but chipped vase/urn.
She said I could have it so immediately I started dreaming up what exactly I would do with this little gem.
I thought adding some faux concrete texture would give it a timeless look & add some character.

First I gathered my supplies, some leftover paint, a brush, & something to add texture.
I am going to use Plaster of Paris but you could use actual concrete dust or dirt.
First Layer

Next, I mixed a little Plaster of Paris with the white paint & dabbed it all over the vase.
The reason I dabbed the paint & not brushed it on is because I want the texture of the rough surface it will create.
Second Layer

I let the first coat dry for about 10 minutes before starting my second mixture.
For the second mixture I added gray paint & even more Plaster of Pairs to the white mixture.

I mixed it all together & dabbed it on the same way.
If you need more texture add more plaster to the mix.

This is how it looked when I was finished!
Adding Greenery

Next, I added faux greenery to give it a little life!

I am in deep love with how this turned out y’all!
It’s amazing that just a little paint & plaster can completely restore any piece of decor into something new.

This has to be my easiest DIY ever & it cost me nothing to make which is a huge bonus.

I really needed a project win in the middle of this major kitchen renovation ๐
While I am on this concrete decor kick I thought I would round up some of my other favorites for y’all!
