Here are 10 easy ideas to get you started:
1. Affordable Cabinet Upgrades

One of the quickest ways to refresh your kitchen is by updating your cabinets.
Instead of replacing them entirely, consider painting or refacing your existing cabinets. Sometimes just painting the upper cabinets a pop of color will also do the trick for half the money.

My favorite way to update builder grade cabinets is to add handles and knobs. Hardware can immediately make a kitchen look custom without a ton of work.
We added these stunning Grandeur Hardware knobs and pulls to my sister’s kitchen and it immediately made the entire space look custom and collected.

We went with Eden Prairie Cabinet knobs with Carre Square Rosettes and Geneva 6” Handle Pulls.

The satin brass warms up the space and really updates the look of her plain builder grade cabinets.
2. Countertop Makeovers

Countertops are a focal point in any kitchen.
If your laminate counters are looking tired, consider budget-friendly replacements like butcher block or affordable stone alternatives such as quartz-look laminates. These options provide style and durability without the hefty price tag.
Another great option is to paint your countertops. I used this faux wood method in my parent’s house and they turned out amazing.
3. Backsplash Enhancements

A backsplash can add personality and protect your walls from cooking splatters.
Peel-and-stick tiles are an easy DIY option that comes in a variety of styles, including classic subway tiles, geometric patterns, or even metallic finishes. They’re perfect for renters or anyone wanting a quick update.
We added these faux marble tiles to our laundry room backsplash and have zero regrets.

For our kitchen renovation we opted to install shiplap for the backsplash. This was a budget friendly option that is also way easier to install and less messy than grout and tile.
The vertical shiplap also gave the kitchen the appearance of taller ceilings, which is a win with 8′ ceilings.
4. Open Shelving

Replacing some upper cabinets with open shelves creates an airy, open feel and gives you a chance to display your favorite dishes, cookbooks, or decorative items.
It’s a great way to add personality and make your kitchen feel less cramped.
We created this open shelving using these easy to install brackets and 2″ thick boards.
It’s the perfect spot for extra snack storage and pretty kitchen decor.
5. Kitchen Faucet Update

Updating your kitchen faucet is a very simple DIY kitchen update.
You don’t need to be an expert plumber to make this swap. There are so many great options in multiple finishes that will help elevate the look and functionality of your kitchen.
This is the brass faucet we recently installed in my sister’s kitchen to match her brand new cabinet hardware.
6. Lighting Improvements

Good lighting makes a huge difference!
Add under-cabinet lighting to brighten up your workspace or swap out outdated fixtures for trendy pendant lights over an island or dining area.
You can also add sconces to the breakfast nook area for extra coziness. The sconces we used are the plug-in type, but they are controlled with a universal switch.
These small changes can make your kitchen feel more inviting and modern.
7. Decor and Accessories

Small touches like colorful rugs, potted plants, and stylish organizers can add warmth and character to your kitchen.
I love adding art and photos to our kitchen as well. We took these fun family photos in our kitchen, printed them in black and white, and displayed them in our kitchen to add character.
Plus they do a great job at hiding the outlets…
These inexpensive additions help personalize the space without major renovations.
