Sometimes I feel like we gather around our coffee table more than the dinner table.
Our living room is our favorite spot, it’s such a cozy space where we can really unwind from a long day.
We love lighting a fire and snuggling up for cozy family movie nights.
This space is perfect, except for one thing… the coffee table.
Don’t get me wrong, I love our current coffee table.
We brought it with us from the last house and it was one of the first pieces of furniture I bought as a “real adult”
The problem is that is doesn’t fit our space well, it is very large and a bit bulky.
Also if you followed along with our living room renovation you know I tried sanding it down and never quite got the legs right.
I also didn’t finish the bottom half but whose keeping track right.
Choosing The Right Coffee Table
The biggest mistake you can make is not considering the height and shape coffee table that works best for your space.
If the coffee table is too high it can overpower your couch and chairs.
Our main issue is that our coffee table is too deep and wide, we are always tripping over it and pushing it out of the way.
Here are some tips to help you pick the right size for your space:
Height: Choose a coffee table 1-2″ lower than the top of the couch or chairs
Length: The table should be 2/3rds the length of the couch
Placement: Place the coffee table 12 to 18″ away from the couch and chairs
