If you have been hanging around this little blog for anytime at all you know we big puffy heart love home renovations! We have completed a number of One Room Challenges & $100 Room Challenges. So I guess you could say we are projects junkies, always looking for the next one!
For me, these renovations, projects, & everything DIY serve as a creative outlet for me. I enjoy pushing my comfort level & learning new skills. There is no rush like finishing a project & helping other people with their projects. One of my favorite things is learning something new & sharing it with yall. Whether renovations are to improve your homes value or just something you enjoy doing some projects add more value than others.
We put together a list of the top ten renovations/projects that add the most value to your home.
1. Window Trim

Adding trim to your homes windows is a great project to really elevate the rooms in your home without spending a ton of money. We have been slowly but surely knocking out each window in our home as we got. I came up with the lazy girl method to make this project a breeze!
2. Create Storage Space

Future home buyers are going to be looking in your closets yall, its true. People want to know where their stuff would go in the house & is there an adequate amount of space for it. We replace all our builder grade wire shelving units with custom shelving that looks super fancy & expensive but is actually very budget savvy! Check out Eli’s nursery closet to see how we added extra hanging space & shelving for under $100!
3. Fresh Paint

A fresh coat of paint is the absolute easiest & cheapest way to update your home. New paint can make everything feel cleaner & brighter. Future home buyers want to see neutral colors so that they can envision their own style in the home. Lighter colors can help a room feel larger & brighter which is what prospective home buyers want. When we gave this guest bedroom a refresh we chose Sherwin Williams Silver Strand for the wall color. They room feels fresh & airy now!
4. Bathroom Updates

Bathrooms are a big selling point in a home. The spare bathroom was actually my first project, its the project that started the blog you could say! I added some board & batten to the walls & framed in the builders grade mirror to make it look less builders grady, (that’s a word).
5. Flooring Update

Replacing old/worn floors can add a lot of value to a home. We replaced the carpet in the nursery with this budget friendly laminate flooring. Carpet can hold odor so I recommend replacing the carpet with a hardwood flooring option or a neutral colored carpet.
6. Built-In Cabinets

Built-ins really amplify a room & make it look custom. This is one of my favorite projects to date to because it adds a craftsman feel to the room while also adding extra storage. We built them entirely out of MDF so the only expensive part of this DIY is the look!
7. Craftsman Elements

Board & batten is my love language! We put tall board & batten in the nursery & half wall in the 1/2 bathroom. I plan on adding other craftsman wood elements to other rooms because it looks so high end, but is actually very affordable to DIY!
8. Kitchen Updates

Kitchen renovations make a big impact on your homes value. Installing a backsplash is a good place to start. If your cabinets are older & you don’t have the budget to replace them, try painting them a neutral color. Kitchen cabinet hardware can also make a big statement & can be replaced or painted easily.
9. Landscaping

This beautiful front yard landscape from Southern Living is goals! Keep the landscaping clean & simple to attract buyers & add value to your home. It is the first thing people see when they come to your house so you want it to have a good first impression. Updating your front door color is a simple upgrade that is super budget savvy & can make a big impact.
10. Upgrade To Smart Home Options

There are so many smart home options on the market that can help save energy & money. Making a few upgrades can go a long way to increasing your homes value & can save you money in the long run so that’s a win win!
Home improvements don’t necessarily have to cost a fortune to add value to your home. Make a list of all the improvements you want to make & set up a time line & budget to get them done. Check out our list of to do projects we are hoping to accomplish this year to add value to our home!
These are such great ways to add value to a home. As we’re doing our home renovation I’ll be keeping these in mind. I think curb appeal is probably the most important because it’s the first impression. And right now our yard is just dirt! I can’t wait to get all that taken care of.
I agree curb appeal is really important but its my least favorite thing to mess with!
