Tall Board & Batten-Week 3 ORC Nursery

Tall Board & Batten-Week 3 ORC Nursery

Whew, welcome to week 3 yall! If you have been following along you know that we are participating in the spring One Room Challenge & taking on the nursery! I love participating in the ORC because it gives me the drive to really get everything done, also the fact that baby Eli will be arriving soon just adds extra fun pressure (nervous laughter).

Week 1 ~ Week 2 ~ Week 3 ~ Week 4 ~ Week 5 ~ Reveal ~

Last week we took on the nursery closet by adding some super budget savvy shelving & faux wallpaper.

This week we moved onto the room itself. Justin pulled up the carpet & laid down the lament flooring while I took multiple snack breaks & even a nap because you know, pregnancy. We went with the lament because we have three large dogs & wood floors just don’t make sense for us.

He also removed the existing baseboards because they were too wimpy for our future board & batten. I love this flooring because to me it looks like real weathered wood & still feels thick under our feet.

Eventually, I did get to work once he was done & worked on framing in the window with chunky wood. We used the same technique for our kitchen & office windows. I think the wood makes the window look nice & fancy & its a super simple update.

Even pre-paint I am just in love with this look!

Next up I tackled the board & batten, this is my second time taking on this craftsman woodwork project. The first was our downstairs half-bathroom & its still one of my absolute favorite projects! It’s actually a really simple & budget friendly project that elevates the entire room! I will add a tutorial for the tall board & batten we did in the nursery but if you just can’t wait, check out the half bathrooms tutorial. It is fundamentally the same except I didn’t remove the baseboard in the bathroom.

Ahhh I big puffy heart love how the board & batten came out! It really helps the room to look so much larger & gives it that craftsman feel. The upper part of the wall is painted in Sherwin Williams Splendor Blue. The board & batten is painted Sherwin Williams Oxford White, same as the closet.

Its such a relief to have such a huge portion of the project complete & its a good thing because we are offically half way through the challenge! Lets take a look at what we have left:

  • Build shelving for closet
  • -Install laminate flooring
  • -Tall board & batten
  • -Paint
  • -Makeover buffet into a changing table
  • -Nautical art
  • -Buy nursery furniture
  • Install shelving
  • Install new light fixture- The fan is here!

Not too bad if I do say so myself! Be sure to follow us on Instagram for sneak peaks at what we are working on for next week & dont forget to check out all the other incredibly talentd bloggers ORC rooms!
