Room Renovation: Office Week 5

Room Renovation: Office Week 5

Update! Week1/ Week2/Week3/Week4/Week5/Week6 Reveal!

Can you believe we are 1 week away from our office reveal?! I don’t know if I am excited like yay or excited like I may throw up… Regardless its almost here ready or not! Thankfully, we are basically ready. Room renovation for the office during week 5 was busy but definitely the easiest so far!

My goals for this week were:

  1. DIY Bench Cushion
  2. DIY Hot Pink Office Chair Cushion
  3. Put Together Desk/Chair
  4. Tackle the Closet Storage

I always like to overload my list of to do’s because I tell myself I work best under pressure. The truth is I work the same but reward my self constantly with ice cream because I’m “under pressure” and therefore allowed to splurge between to do items. It’s a flawed system sure, but hey find what works for you!

I did pretty well on completing these tasks, here’s a look at what I got accomplished:

  • DIY Bench Cushion– Complete! I ordered my fabric from Michaels & it arrived super quick so this was the first task I completed. I should warn you here that how I created this bench cushion is in no way the professional or possibly even the right way. However, it was super simple, I was able to use materials I mostly already had, & it was extremely budget friendly! If you are a professional seamstress or bench cushion maker I warn you to skip to task 2 because you will not like what you see! For the rest of us who are all about the easy way here we go!

Supplies:

  1. First I measured my bench area and got the length & width for the cushion (I know you would think I had these measurements ingrained in my brain after week 3 but sadly I’m not that awesome). Once I got my measurements I ordered my fabric with an extra 6 inches added to each side so that I would have plenty of room to fold over the foam & all that.
  2. Next, I surveyed what extra pieces of scrap I had for the base of the cushion. I ended up using 2 extra pegboard pieces I had that were currently doing nothing so I decided why not. They were thin enough & about the length I needed. If you are buying your base I suggest a thin piece of plywood. Cheap is fine because you are covering it with fabric anyways!Room Renovation: Office Week 5 DIY Bench Fabric
  3. Then I laid my foam on top of the board and cut it so it was just slightly larger than my board. I used two of these 1-inch pieces & hot glued them on top of one another. Room Renovation: Office Week 5 DIY Bench FabricRoom Renovation: Office Week 5 DIY Bench Fabric
  4. After that, I set the foam on the board & wrapped the batting around it, hot gluing it in place. You could also use a fabric adhesive spray instead of glue.Room Renovation: Office Week 5 DIY Bench Fabric
  5. Once my board, foam, & batting layer were all attached I set them on top of my fabric, foam side down. I cut my fabric so I had enough to wrap around my foam pieces. Room Renovation: Office Week 5 DIY Bench Fabric
  6. Then, I got to folding & stapling the fabric to the board. Be sure to pull the fabric tight so it will have a smooth face. When I got to the ends I wrapped the fabric like I would a present to get pretty corners. And that’s it, easy peasy DIY bench cushion!Room Renovation: Office Week 5 DIY Bench FabricRoom Renovation: Office Week 5 DIY Bench FabricTa Da! I am very pleased with this DIY cushion, It’s nice & comfy just ask my product testers. Room Renovation: Office Week 5 DIY Bench FabricRoom Renovation: Office Week 5 DIY Bench FabricI am so happy to have this item checked off my to-do list!
  • Hot Pink Office Chair Cushion: I just followed the same steps above for this cushion. It was even easier than the bench cushion plus I have enough fabric left over for some DIY buffalo check dinner napkins, score! Room Renovation: Office Week 5 DIY Bench Fabric
  • Put Together Desk/Chair: Check & check! I can’t wait for yall to see them… at the reveal of course!
  • Tackle Closet Storage: Big fail! I did not make it to this project this week, for two reasons. Number 1 Alabama football was on & I really love the chips & dip that goes with football Saturdays, it can all be very distracting. Number 2 I have no clue how I want to use the space now that I have so much storage with the built-in bookcases & bench done. I think I want a pegboard for tools & some storage for my wreaths but that’s as far as I got.

I have one week left before the big reveal! Heres a recap of what I have left to do!

Heres the To Do List so far:

  • Built-in bookcases & bench around the windows
  • New light fixture(actually I just spray painted an old one!)
  • Paint file cabinet (ill show you this in week 4!)
  • DIY canvas art
  • Repurpose old trunk into storage
  • Closet shelving/organization
  • Paint the walls
  • Command center with calendar/whiteboard/file holder etc
  • Reupholster hot pink chair seat
  • DIY dry erase board & frame
  • Bench cushion (the fabric is in!)
  • Trim window

Not too bad if I do say so myself! I just have to finish the closet storage & add a few small things before the reveal! I can’t wait for yall to see it come together next week! Leave me a note with any questions, comments, or your own DIY office project photos. Have a blessed week!

  1. I adore your color choices and fabrics here! I made a bench seat cushion like this once but didn’t think to use peg board. So smart!

  2. I LOVE this! I love all the colors you picked out. I’ve always wanted a bench seat in my home but unfortunately I’ve never had the room. You did a great job! 🙂

  3. Love this project and I think I could handle it! We are putting a window seat into our bedroom and I didn’t want a hard bench to sit on. Thanks for linking up at the Ultimate Pinterest Party this week!
